The first-generation Apple Silicon Macs were announced on November 10 at the “One more thing” event. Powered by an M1 chip, Apple has launched 13-inch MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini to commence the 2 years transition phases from Intel Core processor to Apple Silicon for future Macs.
At the November 10 event, the company announced that M1 is the first chip in the series of Apple Silicon for upcoming Mac models. Judging by the incredible performance and revolutionary battery life of the first-generation Apple Silicon Macs, we are excited for what’s more to come. Here is a list of the expected Macs in 2021 powered by Apple Silicon.
Expected Apple Silicon Macs in 2021
Based on industry reports by analysts and Apple leakers, we have compiled a list of the expected Apple Silicon Macs.
24-inch iMac
The China Times reported that Apple will launch a redesigned iMac with Apple Silicon processor A14T built on 5nm process in the first quarter of 2021. In addition, renowned Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo corroborating this claim said that the company will release a 24-inch iMac in Q1 next year.
In addition, it is also stated that the new Apple desktop will be equipped with custom-made GPUs.
“The new GPU will provide better performance per watt and higher computing performance. It has tile-based deferred rendering technology that allows application developers to write more powerful professional application software and game software.”
Recently, the iMac line-up received an Intel Core upgrade but the design language of the desktop remained. Continuing with the 2012 exterior, the current iMacs 5mm thickness on all sides. Thus, a completely new flat edge-to-edge design is expected with thinner bezels and larger displays in the future iMac models. Svetapple.sk shared concept 24-inch and 32-inch iMac models with a thinner body and curved edges like the iPad Pro (2020)
14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro
In July, TrendForce claimed that a 14-inch MacBook Pro with a mini-LED display will be in production by 2021. Kuo also supports this claim by stating that the 14-inch model will release in quarter 2 or 3 2021.
Recently, LeaksApplePro shared that M1X, the next-generation Apple Silicon for Mac, will debut in 16-inch MacBook Pro. The leaker claims that a source who used a prototype of the alleged chipset and said, “if you think M1 is fast, you haven’t seen M1X”.
New Mac Pro
Bloomberg reported that Apple is working on a new ARM Mac Pro but failed to provide any other details like its size or design. The publisher wrote,
Apple engineers are currently developing a new Mac Pro that looks like the current design at about half the size. It’s unclear if that Mac will replace the current Mac Pro or if it’s an additional model. Apple’s chip designs could help the company reduce the size of its computers due to increased power efficiency, but the current Mac Pro is large, in part, to fit components like additional storage drives and graphics chips.
In October, five unannounced Mac models appeared in EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission) listing. Assuming that these unannounced models are Apple Silicon Macs, then we can expect two new ARM Macs in Q1 2021.
