According to a new report from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst Ross Young, Apple is aiming to launch a new 13.3-inch OLED MacBook Air by 2024. In addition to the MacBook, the tech giant is also working on 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models with OLED displays.
OLED MacBook Air to arrive by 2024
In a tweet from Young for his Super Followers on Twitter, he says that it is “looking increasingly likely” that the Cupertino tech giant will launch a 13.3-inch OLED MacBook in 2024 alongside the rumored 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
The analyst adds that the device is “expected” to be a MacBook Air but could also be a MacBook Pro, a MacBook, or a “new category.” The OLED MacBook is expected to debut alongside two new iPad Pro models. TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously reported that Apple will expand mini-LED display tech to the 11-inch iPad Pro by 2022.
It is looking increasingly likely that Apple will launch a 13.3″ OLED notebook in 2024 in addition to the 11″ OLED and 12.9″ iPad Pro’s. It is expected to be a MacBook Air, but could potentially become a MacBook, MacBook Pro or new category.
Young says the OLED tandem stack Apple plans to use in the OLED MacBook and iPads will also major improvements across the board. It will improve the brightness of the displays, increase their lifespan and improve power consumption “by around 30%”.
Furthermore, the displays will also feature LPTO for a variable refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz. A variable refresh rate makes tasks more fluid and helps to preserve battery life.
Apple’s new M2 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro were recently announced but the rumor mill has already started churning with future expectations. Recently, TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that Apple is working on a new 15-inch MacBook model with the M2 and M2 Pro chips. The 15-inch MacBook is expected to arrive in the second quarter of 2023.
In addition, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently reported that a 12-inch MacBook is in the works with a launch slated for late 2023 or early 2024. Gurman said the rumored device would represent the tech giant’s smallest laptop since it discontinued the 12-inch MacBook in 2019.
A new 14-inch iPad is also expected to be released early next year but it will not feature a mini-LED or a ProMotion display.
