Pingdom is a service which lets you keep track of the uptime of your website. It alerts you through various methods whenever your website goes down. Not so long ago, Pingdom had started giving a free account with the most basic services which worked fine with its free iPhone app. The app let you know when your site suffered from downtime along with the exact timings and such details. This app along with Twitter, email, and SMS notifications was a bonus for webmasters.
Pingdom app for iPhone was updated today to version 2.0 which brings support for detailed graphs, push notifications ( yay! ) and more. The push notifications work like this: when your site goes down, it’ll notify you via push. When it comes back up, it’ll notify you again. So you’ll never be unaware of your site being down and lose valuable visitors. As a blogger, I can vouch for the usefulness of this app since we changed hosts for ithinkdiff.com after careful monitoring of the uptime through the Pingdom iPhone app.
Graphs provide you analysis of the uptime, downtime and response time of your website over a time period which resembles the functionality provided in the web-based control panel. This is an awesome addition which lets you really dig into the statistic of how your website is doing. Especially with search engines preferring faster loading websites, you can find out the response time of your website over a certain duration after any changes you make to it. Any slow downs found can then be remedied easily.
If you’re a blogger or webmaster with an iPhone or iPod Touch, there’s not a reason for you to not have this app on your iDevice. Especially when you count the advantages it provides for free, Pingdom 2.0 is a must have app!
