Apple has released Safari 15.1 beta for developers using macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina. The new Safari version was previously released as part of macOS Monterey beta 8. The update is available from Apple Developer Center.
Safari 15.1 beta for macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina
Apple has shared some release notes for Safari 15.1 beta but they seem to be the same as the ones for Safari 15. The company has not mentioned any new noticeable features. Some users have noted that the update fixes a few issues with bookmarks that would crash the browser.
If you are already using iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, we recommend that you upgrade to Safari 15 to ensure that you can take advantage of all the features like syncing tab groups across devices, performance improvements, privacy features, and more. However, note that Safari 15.1 is a beta so it is not recommended that users install it on their main devices.
Safari 15 is a major new update and was announced with macOS Monterey, but it was also released as an update for macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina before the newer operating system was even released to consumers. At the time of writing, macOS Monterey beta 8 features Safari 15.1, as well as iOS 15.1 and iPadOS 15.1.
It is unclear when Apple will release macOS Monterey to all users. The company has released 8 beta updates so far but no release candidate. But it is clear now that the public release will ship with Safari 15.1 instead of Safari 15.
