Snapchat has released an update which allows you to add website links, backdrops to your snaps and record videos in different voices. The latest update, version 10.12, is now available worldwide for iOS and Android. These features further extend the creative toolset that Snapchat provides to its users to create entertaining and expressive stories.
Here’s everything new in this update:
- Paperclip: After taking a snap, tap on the ‘paperclip’ icon in the editing toolkit on the right to add a link. The link will appear at the bottom on the snap when your friends view it in your story. You will be able to access the website in the app’s internal browser by swiping up on a linked snap.
- Backdrops: With a collection of pre-set backdrops, you can add colorful backgrounds to your snap and make subjects stand out. After taking a snap, tap on the ‘scissors’ icon in the toolkit to go to the backdrops menu. Trace the people or object you want to show, and apply the backdrop of your liking.
- Voice filters: Record your snap videos in different voices by applying voice filters. Tap the ‘speaker’ icon on the bottom left of the camera screen to access voice filters. Test different voices by tapping on each filter and then record with the preferred filter. The filters have a range of voices ranging from aliens to child like, and add a humorous touch to your stories.
These creative features have been added to the app just weeks after Snapchat rolled out Snap Map and mobile Geo-filter studio. All these new additions show the company’s efforts to separate itself from apps like Instagram and Facebook who have copied Snapchat’s stories. Previously, Snapchat only allowed Discover content and ad campaigns to add links. Now users can add links of their favorite websites, events or more to their snaps. Unlike before, users can directly record videos in cartoonish voices and not be restricted to using lenses. New backdrops add a creative flare to Snapchat’s background editing tools, along with vanish and sticker creation.
