Sony has just unveiled its next big “portable” thing i.e the PlayStation Portable 2 codenamed NGP (Next Generation Portable). It is based on five new concepts i.e Revolutionary User Interface, Social Connectivity, Location-based Entertainment, Converging Real and Virtual (augmented) Reality. The device is also compatible with previous PSP’s downloadable games. A new form of media, most likely some sort of a flash memory will be used to distribute the games and not the UMD.

Sony’s new portable introduces a brand new UI called LiveArea, which has a bunch of vertically navigable home screens and built-in social networking through PlayStation Network. One can easily switch between games and the LiveArea without losing current game progress.
According to Sony, the PSP 2 / NGP will be available this holiday season and will come in both White and Black colors!
