Apple replaces Space Gray with new Midnight HomePod mini

In an unexpected turn, Apple has introduced a new color option for its HomePod mini, now available in a sleek Midnight shade.

This colorway replaces the previous Space Gray option, offering a slightly bluer tone, though both colors are essentially black to the untrained eye. The introduction of the Midnight color aligns with the existing color choices for the larger second-generation HomePod, which is also available in Midnight and White.

The HomePod mini, initially released in November 2020, has not seen a hardware update since its launch. Despite the anticipation for a new generation, this color update suggests that a hardware refresh might still be some time away. The new Midnight HomePod mini retains the same features and $99 price point, ensuring that users will receive the same quality audio experience and smart home functionality as before.

Apple’s commitment to sustainability is evident in this release, with the new Midnight HomePod mini being made from 100% recycled mesh fabric, compared to the previous model’s “more than 90%” recycled content. This eco-friendly approach is part of Apple’s broader goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.

The HomePod mini continues to deliver impressive sound quality for its size, standing at just 3.3 inches tall. It supports stereo pairing and multiroom audio, allowing users to enjoy music throughout their home. The device integrates seamlessly with Apple Music, providing access to a vast library of songs, and can be paired with Apple TV 4K for an enhanced home theater experience.

Siri, Apple’s intelligent assistant, enhances the HomePod mini’s functionality beyond music playback. Users can set up automated routines, receive alerts for smoke or carbon monoxide detection, monitor room temperature and humidity, and use the Intercom feature to broadcast messages throughout the home. These capabilities make the HomePod mini a robust tool for smart home management.

Pre-orders for the new Midnight HomePod mini are available starting today, with deliveries beginning on July 17. The device can be purchased from Apple’s online store and will be available in Apple Stores and through authorized resellers in the U.S., Canada, China, Singapore, and 28 other countries and regions.
