Earlier, it was reported that Spotify will not support AirPlay 2 on iOS. However, users do not have to worry. As per a new report, the music streaming giant recently confirmed that it plans to add AirPlay support to iOS after all. We do not know when the feature will become available, but the company has promised updates “when they become available.”
Apple AirPlay 2, launched as part of iOS 11.4 in May 2018, offers wireless streaming of content from Apple devices including iPhone, iPad, or Mac. The functionality enables users to stream a wide variety of content from their device straight to their Apple TV, or other third-part audio devices like Sky Q box, products from Bose, Libratone, and Audio Pro.
AirPlay 2 support for Spotify’s iOS app will eventually become available
In an online discussion forum post, a representative for Spotify said the streaming music service had been working on supporting AirPlay 2, but it had halted its efforts “for now” due to “audio driver compatibility issues.” Though the representative had not completely ruled out the concept, they did suggest it would not be viable in the near future.
Now, the company has has ‘clarified’ its plans and said it will support AirPlay 2 steaming after all. The digital music giant did not comment on when users can expect the future but said that further updates would be posted when they became available.
A post on one of Spotify’s Community pages contained incomplete information regarding our plans for AirPlay2. Spotify will support AirPlay2 and we’re working to make that a reality.
As of right now, the service has not added native support for HomePod of HomePod mini despite Apple’s opening up the Bluetooth speakers to third-party streaming services. Support for AirPlay 2 on iOS should make it easier for users to stream music to HomePod and other third-party devices that support the Cupertino tech giant’s media technology.
