Apple has released tvOS 15.1.1 to all Apple TV users. This is a minor software update, and Apple has not shared what it has changed in the release. The previous update, tvOS 15.1, was released with SharePlay which lets users watch movies and TV shows, and listen to music with their friends over FaceTime.
What’s new in tvOS 15.1.1?
As Apple has not shared any release notes, it is likely that the update contains bug fixes and under-the-hood maintenance updates. We checked Apple’s security updates page, and while it lists tvOS 15.1.1, it has a note that this update does not have any published CVE entries. Apple has fixed a number of security bugs in tvOS 15.1 update.
The biggest feature in tvOS 15.1 was SharePlay support. The feature lets users watch videos and listen to music with their friends over FaceTime. SharePlay is currently supported by Apple TV, Apple Music, and other apps. Disney+ will also be gaining SharePlay support later this year, while Netflix has not announced support yet.
SharePlay not only works on Apple TV, but it also works with iPhone, iPad, and HomePod. macOS Monterey 12.1 beta is currently available with SharePlay support, so Mac users will get the features very soon.
tvOS 15 was released a few months ago with Spatial Audio support for AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, stereo pairing with HomePod mini, “Hey Siri” command support to control Apple TV from other devices, and “Shared with You” support to highlight content shared with users via iMessage.
