After years of asking for an edit button on Twitter, users might get one. Twitter has confirmed that it has been working on the edit button since last year and it will be available this year.
Over the years, Twitter has gradually introduced changes to improve users’ experience like increasing a tweet’s characters, anti-bullying measures, and more. The company also introduced a new subscription tier “Blue” with additional features to increase its revenue and the new feature is going to be available on Blue first.
Twitter’s new edit button will be available to Twitter Blue subscribers first
The announcement tweet by @TwitterComms states that the company had been working on the edit feature for over 12 months and it did not get the idea from a poll. However, the feature will roll out to Twitter Blue subscribers in the coming years to gauge its performance.
According to the demo of the edit feature, seen by MacRumors, users can click on the Details button of a tweet to see the “Edit Tweet” option in the menu, along with Delete Tweet, Pin to Profile, Change who can reply, and add/remove from Lists options. Previously, the company said that “a free Twitter is not going away, and never will”, so there is hope that the Edit button might make it there for everyone.
In June 2021, the micro-blogging platform launched its first-ever subscription service ‘Twitter Blue’ starting in Australia and Canada and is now also available in the United States and New Zealand. For $3 per month, the new subscription tier offers exclusive features and perks like the Undo feature which allows users to preview and revise tweets before posting them, Bookmark Folders to organize saved tweets, and more.
now that everyone is asking…
yes, we’ve been working on an edit feature since last year!
no, we didn’t get the idea from a poll 😉
we're kicking off testing within @TwitterBlue Labs in the coming months to learn what works, what doesn’t, and what’s possible.
