Twitter Spaces to introduce themed audio stations and a daily digest

Twitter Spaces is going to receive an uphaul. TechCrunch has confirmed that Twitter is working on improving audio chat rooms on Spaces with new thematic audio stations and daily audio digest.

In November 2020, Twitter Spaces was launched on mobile to offer users a new audio chatrooms experience like the audio-centric service ‘Clubhouse’. Since then, Twitter has been updating the service with new capabilities like the addition of the Spaces discovery tab and co-host feature to make it easier for users to find chatrooms of their interest and for hosts to manage them effectively.

Twitter Spaces will add topic-based audio chat rooms for users to easily discover conversations as per their interest

According to screenshots of the upcoming features shared by Watchful, it appears that the Twitter Spaces tab on the app will be updated with themed or organized audio rooms according to topics like sports, music, and others. The thematic audio chats will have colorful display cards from the programs.

The second update is a new “Your daily digest” feature which consists of a selection of programs that users will be able to play with a tap of a button.

TechCrunch approached Twitter and received confirmation that it is testing thematic audio stations and a personalized audio digest. However, the company emphasized that the screenshots do not represent the updated version of the new features. The readers must keep in mind that themed audio stations and daily digest may appear as they do in the shared images.

Twitter also stressed these images — which hail from competitive intelligence firm Watchful — are inaccurate and outdated. We’re told they represent only “an initial version” of the new experience it has in the works.

The company said an official announcement would be further down the road after concepts are finalized but didn’t offer a time frame.

The company’s statement seems accurate because screenshots of the new features coming to Twitter Spaces shared by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi appear slightly different from Watchful’s which might be the updated version. The interface of themed audio stations in Paluzzi’s images has a more clean and modern design.
