While redsn0w can jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch with iOS 4.2.1 currently, it’s a big hassle as it requires 4.2b3 SHSH blobs as well as it’s tethered, which means, you have to re-run the jailbreak tool each time you restart your iOS device. Turns out, things are looking bright for jailbreakers. p0sixninja of the Chronic Dev team which is behind the popular Greenpois0n jailbreak tool has tweeted out the following:
A lot of people are saying another tethered jailbreak is pointless, I agree. Focusing on getting untethered before release
This means that focus has changed from getting a jailbreak out of the door to getting an untethered jailbreak to the public. The release is expected asap probably as soon as the sandbox patches are done right as per the information provided in p0sixninja’s tweets. Also, keep in mind that this wont be the untethered jailbreak greenpois0n team is implementing is different than the one that iPhone Dev Team has.
This only means good things for the community as different teams are working on jailbreak tools and there are a few vulnerabilities out there. Who knows, maybe Geohot will one-up these teams again and release a tool out of the blue
