Developer Niantic has announced that 2020 Pokémon GO Fest will be a global online event. This year’s virtual summer Fest will be a two days event, from July 25 till 26. During these two days, trainers from around the world will be able participate in this Pokémon community event to meet other game enthusiasts, share their experiences, tricks and have a good time. For the first time ever, Niantic is allowing ticket holders to attend both days of the summer Fest.
The Pokémon GO Fest weekend will be packed with lots of game related surprises like special research, bonuses, Pokémon encounters. In the official announcement, developer Niantic also asked the trainers to stay tuned for more new exciting surprises through out the summer like ways to connect to other trainers and surprises to elevate player experiences.
The decision to go virtual is made in the light of the current global COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the health crisis, World Health Organization has directed citizens of the world to maintain social distancing and remain in isolation to break the chain of virus transmission. Therefore, like Apple WWDC and Sony PS5 online events, Niantic is complying by health care orders and is hosting the Pokémon GO Fest online for trainers across the globe. This Fest will be a good opportunity for trainers to expand their social circle.
COVID-19 is affecting most activities world-wide: social, economic, political, and educational. Due to the prevailing health crisis, in March 2020, Niantic postponed its Pokémon GO Safari Zone event, as public gatherings are prohibited in the pandemic. However, the developer is introducing solutions to social and physical immobility by offering tasks to be completed at home to earn rewards.
- Pokémon GO new Play at Home update informs users how to play during isolation
- PokéCoin system in Pokémon Go will be getting new features in future updates
- Pokémon Go releases bonus Field Research task, buddy gifts and new avatar items
