Waze, a popular navigation app, is now supported directly on the CarPlay dashboard. The app is listed on Apple’s CarPlay support page. Recently, the app was also discovered by a beta tester. CarPlay is designed to bring iOS to compatible automobiles so users can safely use their iPhones while driving.
Recently, the iOS 13.4 update allowed users to add third-party apps to their CarPlay dashboard. Previously, the only navigation app available on the smart car dashboard was Apple’s Maps. Therefore, the company now offers several navigation apps on the smart car dashboard.
Waze is a Google-owned navigation and live traffic app. The app is popular for its live traffic updates in real-time and instant alternative route suggestions which help users to avoid routes with heavy traffic, construction, or other obstacles.
Waze App Coming to CarPlay Dashboard
A tipster sent an image of the Waze app on CarPlay’s dashboard to The Verge. The app was working seamlessly on the smart dashboard’s multiple split-screen which was released on iOS 13 in 2019. Multiple screens view allows users to keep different apps open on the dashboard while driving like music, navigation, calls, calendar, and others.
Using the app in beta, the tipster also discovered that Waze now features lane guidance which is helpful in entering and exiting freeways, navigating intersections, and highway mergers. The user-described that the app works “really smooth” on the CarPlay dashboard and is a “game-changer” addition to the smart car experience.
Although Waze’s spokesperson did not confirm the app’s availability on CarPlay, we found that it is listed on Apple’s support page in navigation apps.
Apple introduced CarPlay in 2014. Calling it a co-pilot, Apple states,
“CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your iPhone while you drive. You can get directions, make calls, send and receive messages, and enjoy your favorite music. All on your car’s built-in display. And with iOS 14, CarPlay introduces all-new app categories and custom wallpapers for your CarPlay Dashboard.”
Waze is available on the App Store for free with multiple language support. It requires iOS 11.0 and later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. It must be kept in mind that Waze uses location even when the app is closed which results in battery drain.
