WhatsApp for iPhone has received a number of useful new features with its latest update. The latest app update brings new features which include color filters, photo albums and quick replies in message threads.
WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging platforms in the world with a user base of more than 1 billion. One of its main competitors is Messenger, also owned by Facebook, so it makes one wonder how long will their features remain different. Two of the three features introduced in this new update are already available in Messenger.
Color Filters for photos, videos and GIF in WhatsApp
WhatsApp now lets you add color filters to your media before sharing it in a single or group message. The filters are similar to what Facebook, Instagram and Messenger apps offer. The plus point is that they work with GIFs and videos along with photos.
Adding color filters to your content is very easy. Open up the photos/videos picker and select your photo, video or GIF. Swipe up to reveal the filters. They are not easily discover-able if you miss the first hint so it would be better if WhatsApp would change them so they are always visible.
Photo Albums
When you send multiple photos or videos to a contact, they will be grouped together in an album. It is a very small but welcome change. Again, this is similar to how albums are created in Messenger chats.
Reply Shortcuts
Replies to messages in a chat were introduced not so long ago in WhatsApp. You could long press on any message and reply to it. With this new update, you can simply swipe right on any message to put it into a quote and reply.
Back in January, it was rumored that WhatsApp would be introducing sent message recall and live location sharing. These features were supposedly in testing back then however; they still have not been released to the public.
