WABetaInfo has found that WhatsApp for iOS is working on a new “Past Participants” feature for group chats. The company developed the feature for Android and now plans to expand it to iOS as well.
Previously, WhatsApp increased the group call limit up to 8 participants at a time, and reportedly, it is working on the ability to “silently” leave groups without notifying other members. But, it is also going to introduce a new feature for users to search for those group members who had left.
WhatsApp’s new “Past Participant” feature will enable users to search for members who had left a group in the past 60 days
According to the report, WhatsApp for iOS will add a new “Past Participants” section for group chat through which users will be able to search for and view the group members who had left or were removed from the chat in the past 60 days (2 months). After the set duration, all past participants’ names will be removed from the app.
All group members will be able to view who left the group in the past 60 days by opening this new section that will be available right within group info. So, past participants will be removed from this list after 60 days.
In the previous report on the “Past Participants” feature on WhatsApp for Android, WABetaInfo explained that the option to view departed group members will appear at the bottom of the group participants’ list. And in addition to the admin, everyone will be able to view who had left the group. It is likely the new feature will have the same UI on iOS as well.
Recently, the company introduced Emojis Reply Reactions to make users’ one-on-one and group chats more expressive. Prior to that, the company has released Reactions, up to 2GB file sharing, and up to 512 group members or participants. It is also going to launch Communities soon.
