WhatsApp is developing a universal macOS app in connection to its iPad app. WABetaInfo reports that the social messaging company is using Apple’s catalyst project to offer a Mac app. The publisher previously claimed that WhatsApp is working on an iPad app, and in connection with that, it is developing a new app to release on macOS Catalyst.
Mac Catalyst program allows developers to bring their iPad apps to macOS. Using the latest version of Xcode, developers can optimize their apps’ user interface for Mac.
Native Mac apps built with Mac Catalyst can share code with your iPad apps, and you can add more features just for Mac. On macOS Monterey, use the latest APIs to display pop-up buttons, tooltips, and a subtitle in a windowʼs titlebar. You can also provide touch alternatives, keyboard navigation, and support for Siri intents, as well as allow users to print everywhere using Command-P, and more. There’s never been a better time to turn your iPad app into a powerful Mac app. – Apple
With multi-device support, WhatsApp to launch an iPad app compatible with macOS Catalyst
The upcoming WhatsApp app on iPad will use the same macOS Catalyst to offer the app on Mac. And with multi-device support, users will not even require to connect their iPhone to use the app.
Maybe you don’t know, but Apple allows using compatible iPad apps on macOS Catalyst and WhatsApp is going to enable the support at a later date: they are working on it right now!
According to the report, the WhatsApp app on Mac will look exactly like its iPad version.
How does the macOS app look? Exactly like the iPad app we spotted some time ago. They have the same interface, but WhatsApp for macOS Catalyst will have some UI improvements: they are needed to use the app correctly on a desktop interface.
Obviously, we need to wait for the iPad app to be released, and there isn’t a known release date, unfortunately.
