Microsoft has recently announced that Insiders in the Dev Channel can now get rid of Cortana on Windows 11. The company has decided to gradually phase out Cortana.
Cortana was first released in 2014 for Windows Phone 8.1 and later made its way to Windows 10 and Windows 11. Cortana used to be a core part of Windows 11. However, Microsoft has been gradually phasing out Cortana for several years.
For example in 2020, the company announced that it would be ending support for Cortana on mobile devices. In 2021, Microsoft announced that it would make Cortana a productivity assistant integrated with Microsoft 365 apps.
Microsoft might eventually remove Cortana altogether from Windows 11
Microsoft recently released a new build of Windows 11 (Build 25921) to Insiders in the Dev Channel. This build brings several new features, including the ability to uninstall Cortana.
The decision to allow Insiders to uninstall Cortana is a sign that Microsoft is continuing to move away from Cortana as a standalone app. Microsoft may eventually even remove Cortana altogether from Windows 11.
The removal of Cortana is also a sign that Microsoft is finally starting to listen to user feedback. Many users have complained about Cortana being intrusive and unnecessary. This change will hopefully make Windows 11 a more user-friendly experience for everyone.
As of now, Microsoft is focusing on generative AI to improve productivity and creativity. Like Copilot, a generative AI service that helps developers write code. Copilot is powered by the OpenAI API, which is a large language model that has been trained on a massive dataset of code.
In addition to Copilot, Microsoft is also developing other generative AI tools. For example, the company is working on a tool that can help writers generate text and a tool that can help designers create graphics.
Microsoft is at the forefront of the generative AI revolution. The company is investing heavily in this technology, and it is developing a wide range of generative AI tools. As generative AI continues to mature, Microsoft is well-positioned to lead the way in this field.
