Windows Phone 7 Update For Samsung Omnia 7 Bricking Some Devices!

It seems that first Windows Phone 7 update, which has just been rolled out for download, is resulting in a number of major issues for many Samsung Omnia 7 users. As reported by WinRumors, some users have not been able to complete the update process at all. After plugging their devices into their PCs, they seem to get stuck at stage 6 of the update resulting in their handset hanging on a “connect your phone to your PC” screen. Some are suggesting this WP7 update problem may be caused by different Samsung firmware versions while others believe it may be caused by 64-bit version os of the Zune client.

The Zune client displays the following error:

“RESTORATION ERROR

An error prevented the restoration of your phone to its previous version.

Your phone can’t be used in its present condition and there are no restore points for it on this computer. The phone might restart and return to normal if you disconnect it. For further assistance, contact your mobile operator.

Microsoft’s PR team has not yet recognized the issue officially, though its support team has offered up a couple of things to try, points us towards the following two articles:

If you are still facing problems, you can try hard resetting your device by holding the volume down + camera + power buttons. Until there’s a permanent fix, check out Microsoft’s support forums regarding this issue.
