With the Skype co-founder Janus Friis on its side, Wire has a lot of experience backing it. Having already provided a streamlined and immersive design, group chats and audio calls, Wire is now a providing video calls for all users, for free. They work very well, without the need of any plug-ins. Wire has also gone ahead and introduced end-to-end encryption for all forms of communication that it offers, which means that users can safely share any information on it and be assured that it will not be scanned for ads or be leaked to third parties. It’s interesting that encryption is the newest product that services are offering, in times when Apple is going against the US government to protect the privacy of its users.

Being a regular user of Wire, I absolutely love its audio call quality. Apart from Apple’s FaceTime, which also has end-to-end encryption, Wire is the next best alternative which works on more platforms than Apple’s. Wire’s video quality is not the best yet but the company says that they will continue working on improving it.

Wire is available on iOS, Android, Mac and Windows as well as on web.
