Apple teases WWDC 2022 with AR trading cards and highlights community-hosted WWDC events on new webpage

Apple has created a new augmented reality experience for WWDC 2022. The annual Worldwide Developers Conference now has its own Easter egg surprise: interactive Memoji trading cards. In addition, Apple has created a new “Beyond WWDC” webpage detailing community-led events that will be hosted during or after WWDC.

WWDC 2022 gets a fun new AR Easter egg!

Note that the Easter egg can only be accessed on devices running iOS/iPadOS. To check out the WWDCC 2022 Easter egg, open the Apple Events webpage on your iPhone and iPad, then touch the WWDC22 banner which shows several Memoji characters around MacBook. Could this be a sign that a new MacBook Air is coming next week?

The AR experience starts as a virtual card pack which you can tap on to reveal three cards. You can tap on each card to interact with it and view it from multiple angles. Cards and Memoji available in the AR card pack include a rare multicolor version with a one in 26 chance of getting it.

While this is the first time Apple has created an interactive AR experience, it is not the first Easter egg it has hidden in plain sight. It has done so for many events in the past including the Unleashed and Peek Performance events.

In addition to this, the tech giant today shared a new “Beyond WWDC” webpage highlighting developer-led events that will be taking place throughout the week of WWDC which is scheduled from June 6 to June 10. The webpage includes a ton of events like meetups and virtual sessions conducted in different languages.

Some events highlighted in the list include Extended Tokyo 2022, WWDC.playground, Devpass WWDC22 Special, CocoaHeads Meetup Australia and try! Swift DUB DUB, among many others.

Apple is widely expected to debut iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, tvOS 16, and watchOS 9 at WWDC 2022. The virtual event will kick off at 10 a.m. PT (10: 30 p.m. IST). on Monday, June 6.
