X (formerly known as Twitter) recently announced a global rollout of passkey support for iPhone users. This means a more secure and streamlined login experience for millions of users worldwide.
What are Passkeys?
Passkeys are a new authentication standard developed by the FIDO Alliance in collaboration with tech giants like Apple, Google, and Microsoft. They replace traditional passwords with a more secure and user-friendly method.
Instead of remembering long and complex character combinations, users can simply sign in to apps and websites using their fingerprint or Face ID, just like unlocking their iPhones.
With passkey, X becomes more secure and user-friendly
X was one of the first major platforms to adopt passkeys, initially offering it to US users in January 2024. Now, with the global rollout, iPhone users worldwide can benefit from this enhanced security feature.

Benefits of Passkeys for iPhone users:
- Improved security: Passkeys offer robust security features by leveraging public-key cryptography. Even if a server is compromised, the user’s private key remains secure on their iPhone, preventing unauthorized access.
- Password elimination: Passkeys eliminates the need for users to remember complex passwords, reducing the likelihood of security breaches associated with weak or reused passwords.
- Convenience: Accessing accounts with Passkeys is seamless and intuitive. Users can authenticate themselves with a simple action like tapping a button on their iPhone, enhancing the overall user experience.
- Integration with iOS security features: X’s implementation of Passkeys on iPhone demonstrates a robust integration with Apple’s security infrastructure, including the secure enclave, to ensure maximum protection of user credentials.
How to use passkeys on X:
If you’re an iPhone user with the latest X app update, you should automatically be able to use passkeys. When logging in, you’ll see an option to create a passkey. This process involves verifying your identity with Face ID or Touch ID, and your device will securely store the passkey.
The global rollout of passkeys by X is a significant step towards a more secure and user-friendly online experience. With passkeys, logging in will be faster, easier, and most importantly, much more secure.
