YouTube introduces redesigned video player on iOS and Android apps

For its iOS and Android mobile apps, YouTube has redesigned the video player to easily access buttons to view comments, like or dislike content, and more in full-screen mode. In the older version of YouTube’s video player on mobile, users had to swipe up on the “More Videos” section to access the aforementioned control options.

Previously, the popular video streaming app has been updated with picture-in-picture support on iOS for all users which allows them to multitask while continuing to watch the played video outside the app in a floating window. Reportedly, YouTube is testing the offline feature available on iOS and Android for its web app, so that, users can download episodes or videos over Wi-Fi to watch them later, even when without connectivity.

YouTube makes it easier to access its video player’s control buttons in full-screen mode

While keeping the functionality of the video player the same as before in portrait mode, the popular video streaming app has made changes to the video player in full-screen mode for its iOS and Android mobile apps.

In the new video player, the control buttons to share, like, dislike, save and access the comments appear. Previously, to read or write comments under a video in landscape mode, users had to switch to portrait mode first, tap on the comment section and revert to the landscape mode.

Currently, the redesigned UI is appearing for several users but not all. If the changes have not appeared on your app yet, check your respective iOS or Android app store for an update to enjoy the video player UI. It must be kept in mind that the number of likes and dislikes on videos is still private.
