Google has updated YouTube Shorts with new creation tools like Collab, interactive Q&A stickers, insertion of live vidoes in the main feed, and more for creators to produce entertaining content on iOS and Android.
The immense popularity of short-form content on TikTok and Instagram Reels inspired Google to launch YouTube Shorts in 2021. Now, the platform is offering new creation tools to enhance the Shorts experience for creators and compete with rivals.
Here are the new creation tools available on YouTube Shorts for creators
Starting today, the following new creation tools are available for YouTube Shorts creators on mobile:
- Remix is updated with a new Collab feature which supports a split screen format to combine different video clips when recording Shorts. Creators can choose the Shorts’ layout, add effects/ music, adjust its speed, and more. Collab is currently available on iOS and will release on Android later.
- Q&A stickers allow creators to interact with their audience by asking questions, their experiences, feedback, and more and get responses in the comments.
- Like TikTok, creators can reply to comments in Shorts.
- Option to save Shorts to playlists on YouTube.
- Improved Remix automatically combines audio and effect from the video that is being remixed. It will allow users to join trends.
YouTube has also announced that it would start testing new “recomposition” tools to turn horizontal videos into Shorts in the coming weeks.
- Insertion of live videos in the new Shorts feed to show their preview. If the viewers tap on the preview, the app will take them to the live video feed.
The tech company said that YouTube Shorts were watched by 1.5 billion logged-in users per month in 2022 and now, the number has risen to 2 billion monthly logged-in users which might have encouraged it to introduce more tools to boost creativity on the platform.
