YouTube has announced that it is testing new “AI-auto generated summaries”. The feature is designed to make it easier for users to read a quick summary of a video so they can decide if they want to watch it or not.
The tech company explains that its product teams constantly test new features and tools for users to find, watch, share, and create content more easily. Called experiments or betas, these features are only available for a limited time and a small group of people.
So, if YouTube looks different for some users than others that means they are part of beta testing.
YouTube’s AI-generated video summaries in English are seen on watch and search pages
According to the company’s support document, AI-generated video summaries are available in English and can be viewed on the watch and search pages.
It must also be noted that YouTube’s AI-generated video summaries will not replace video descriptions written by creators. It is only an additional feature to help users decide.
However, the streamer did not mention if the feature will be released on the app, it said that it was running for a limited number of videos and visible to select viewers. Users who are using the experiment were asked to share their feedback.
Testing AI auto-generated summaries
We’re starting to test AI auto-generated summaries on YouTube, so that it’s easier for you to read a quick summary about a video and decide whether it’s the right fit for you. To begin with, you may see these summaries on watch and search pages. While we hope these summaries are helpful and give you a quick overview of what a video is about, they do not replace video descriptions (which are written by creators!).
Last month, the tech company also tested AI-generated quizzes on mobile and viewer-created Shorts featuring comments to improve users’ experience on the platform.
